Gilmore Girls TV Show is an Emmy Award winning American comedy drama series which made its debut on The WB during October, 2000. 

The main characters of the show are detailed below.

Lorelai Gilmore, raised in Hartford, Connecticut was named after her grandmother.  She is the mother of Lorelai "Rory" Leigh Gilmore.  She is a chatty and free spirited child of the eighties who became pregnant with Rory by Christopher Hayden at the young age of only sixteen, proving to be a disappointment and embarrassment to her parents.   The fact that she is a caffeine addict, and possesses absolutely no cooking skills whatsoever is her excuse to indulge in take away meals or pay regular visits Luke’s diner. 

Rory Gilmore is the daughter of Lorelai and she also shares her mother’s passion for junk food.  She spent much of her younger life in the Independence Inn where her mother was employed as a maid.  As a child she had very little contact with her grandparents.

Richard and Emily are the parents of Lorelai Gilmore and grandparents of Rory who Lorelai had to turn to for money in order to put Rory through her education.  As payback her parents insisted she visited them every Friday evening, which turned out to be a tradition which continued throughout Rory’s attendance at college, and paid for it too.

Dean Forester is Rory’s steady boyfriend and this relationship was brought to an end by Dean when he could no longer cope with Rory’s infatuation with the local bad boy, Jess Mariano.  Not so long after Jess and Rory started dating, Jess takes off to California to see his father without mentioning it to Rory.   At this point Rory took up with Dean once more.

Logan Huntzberger, heir to his fathers publishing business became Rory’s next serious beau although the relationship started on a casual no strings attached basis.  Rory was given an internship at one of Mitchum Huntzberger’s (Logan’s father) newspaper company’s but at the end of the internship he told her she did not make the mark.

The story goes that after discovering she was pregnant and refusing adamantly to have the pregnancy aborted, Lorelai had her baby, lived with her parents and then fled from home with the child and worked at the Independence Inn, leaving behind her the society style life her parents had already planned out for her. The show is about families and the ties which bind the members together. 

Gilmore Girls is a fast moving television show with frequent references to politics and high culture and has starred many guest appearances of well known artists such as Carol King, Norman Mailer and Paul Anka.   One particular episode of the show which was highly rated amongst viewers was the one entitled Rory’s Dance where following being pressured by her grandmother into making the most of whatever experiences she came across in high school, Rory who at this time is quite a shy individual takes her first dance with Dean.  However, a major blow up erupts when Rory and Dean make a not so wise decision as they leave the dance.

Regrettably for its following during 2007 The CW announced that the show would not be renewed and it appeared that money was the main factor in this decision being made as deals on salaries for the main cast members could not be agreed.  However, discussions have taken place about the making of a movie of the Gilmore Girls and many cast members have shown an interest in this venture.
